The whispers are true - our latest collection is live, and we couldn't be more excited to share it with the world! The launch of White Whispers comes after nearly a year of dreaming, draping and seeking inspiration from our archives - one that's been built over the past 21 years. It's a collection that aims to inspire kind thoughts and affirmations in the minds of our brides as they journey to the aisle and celebrate one of their happiest moments with the ones they love.
This spirit of effortless elegance became the foundation of this chic bridal collection. Inspired by so many of the brides we have had the privilege of dressing over the years, the collection explores what happens when bridalwear feels less like a costume meant for one day only, and more like a natural extension of the woman wearing it.
Setting The Scene...
Picture our bride, arriving at the family chateau with the ease of someone who has nothing to prove. She might pause to feed the horses, play a bit of boules while sipping a cup of tea (or Champagne...) before heading inside to get ready for her big day. She might change her mind about the flowers over lunch or slip from a gown into a pair of beautifully cut trousers when the dancing begins. She is serious about the day, but not for the reasons that can so often become the stressors of being the centre of a wedding. She's only interested in having a good time with her nearest and dearest, and she plans on doing so in an effortlessly elegant way. These are the scenes that played out in our minds as we designed White Whispers.
The campaign was shot at the most magical family home in the Winelands of Cape Town, South Africa - a place that can only be described as inspired by somewhere near the Mediterranean... Surrounded by vineyards, lavender and the most exquisite blooms, our bride rocks up in a vintage Mercedes convertible, before pulling on her Hunter boots and heading for the stables. The storyline we had running through our head for this campaign was that of a confident woman who doesn't take herself too seriously while indulging unapologetically in the things she loves. She speaks tiny whispers of affirmations to herself as she goes about her day - a day that sees her walking effortlessly into her next adventure.
From the archive, with a new perspective
While White Whispers looks firmly towards the future, its beginnings can be found in our 21-year-old archive. The collection revisits some of the silhouettes that have become part of our design language, reimagining them in new fabrics and with a fresh perspective. The intention was never simply to reproduce something that had worked before. Instead, familiar Catherine Deane silhouettes were given a new life.
Take, for instance, the fabulous bridal suit that is made up of the Farley Blazer and Fenix Trousers. Reimagined in the most exquisite floral brocade, this modern suit was inspired by our much-loved Peyton Blazer and Alexis Trousers. This fresh take, inspired by the icons, allows our brides to choose between fabric types, all in the same sleek silhouette depending on their unique style and wedding inspiration. Add the Floralie Bodice to this set, and you have yourself the most chic three-piece bridal suit.
Some of our most-loved pieces also inspired us to create matching pieces that complete the look, as is the case with the beautifully detailed Fable Skirt cut from the same lace as our Itala Top. Now brides have the option to style this iconic bridal top with the matching skirt and complete the look with the Itala Veil, hand-appliqued with the same lace scallop trim.
This sense of continuity is important to us as we envision each new design as an extension of our already existing collection. They are designed to live alongside our already perfectly curated collection of bridal wear.
When the fabric leads the way
The process of creating a collection rarely begins and ends with a sketch. The fabrics we select for each collection play an important role in determining where a garment will go, and the search for something truly special can become the beginning of an entirely new design. “We don't force the fabrics,” the designers explain. “They often lead the design concept and end up telling their own story.”
That philosophy can be seen throughout White Whispers, particularly in the collection's use of rich, tactile fabrics that bring a sense of old-world romance to modern silhouettes. Luxurious silk satin brocade introduces texture and depth, while silk dupion gives the collection's most dramatic ballgown, Elizabeth, a sense of grandeur. The result is a collection that feels romantic without becoming overly ornate. There is history in the fabrics and silhouettes, but the way they are worn is distinctly modern.
A year in the making
The finished collection may have an effortless quality, but creating something that looks effortless is anything but easy. White Whispers was a year in the making, moving through countless stages of development, sampling and refinement before the final edit emerged. The design team will often develop almost twice as many pieces as eventually make it into a collection. It is an intentionally rigorous process, with only the strongest designs making the final cut.
Every garment then moves through a detailed testing and fitting process, with input from our internal design, sales and retail teams. The aim is to ensure that a garment doesn't simply look beautiful on the rail or in a sketchbook, but feels just right when a real woman puts it on. “We want to design what women actually want to wear,” says the team. “The feedback we receive from our brides, our retail teams and our sales teams is such an important part of that process.”
That attention to wearability is at the heart of why we design how we do. While a wedding look needs to make a moment feel extraordinary, it also needs to allow the woman wearing it to move, breathe, dance and, ultimately, enjoy herself.
Beauty that doesn't ask you to compromise
One of the collection's most exciting design stories began with a silhouette that has long represented effortless elegance: the bias-cut slip dress silhouette, or the Francesca Gown.
We've long since fallen in love with the effortlessly chic silhouette bais draped fabric brings to a gown, however, traditionally, that beauty can come with a compromise. Slip dresses often offer little support or structure, which can make them less wearable for most brides. We wanted to reimagine the ease of the bias-cut gown and problem-solve it's short comings in White Whispers.
Instead of sacrificing comfort for fluidity, we introduced built-in structure and corsetry beneath the effortless exterior of the Francesca Gown. The result is the best of both worlds: the sensual ease of a bias-cut silhouette with the support and security of a beautifully engineered bridal garment.
This is the ultimate expression of this idea. Crafted in silk satin brocade, it combines hand-draped elegance with considered internal construction, allowing our bride to feel supported without losing the sense of freedom that defines the bias-cut silhouette. A matching scarf adds another layer of styling possibility, giving our brides the freedom to interpret the look in their own way.
Francesca is, in many ways, the perfect White Whispers bride in garment form - effortless on the outside, thoughtfully considered underneath.
The wedding wardrobe
Perhaps the biggest idea running through White Whispers is that a bride doesn't have to choose between one dress and everything else.
For years, we've championed bridal separates as a way of giving women greater freedom to build their own looks. White Whispers takes that philosophy further, embracing the idea of a wedding wardrobe. It's how we landed on a collection of bridal garments that can accompany a bride throughout the many celebrations surrounding her wedding. A blazer and trousers for a welcome dinner. A skirt and top for the ceremony. A gown for the reception. A veil or detachable detail to transform a look. Something she can wear again long after the last dance.
“Our brides come to us for relaxed elegance,” says the design team. “They want the freedom to build their look, to mix and match and to wear pieces again. Nothing should feel too fussy or overstyled.”
It is an approach that also speaks to a more considered idea of bridalwear. The wedding becomes not one isolated moment, but a series of celebrations where the wardrobe grows with it.
The pieces that made the final cut
Among the collection's most dramatic moments is the Elizabether Gown, our biggest ballgown silhouette yet. Crafted in silk dupion, it brings a sense of classic grandeur to the collection while remaining grounded in the same modern femininity that runs throughout White Whispers.
And then there is a fresh selection of bridal separates, a category we've pioneered and built over the last 21 years. It's perhaps the part of our assortment we most frequently return to due to its versatility, its longevity and our love for creating pieces that outlast the wedding day. Brides can look forward to new silhouettes that they can mix and match with other pieces in this collection, or with our existing bridal separates assortment.
Dress for the woman you already are
Ultimately, White Whispers isn't about creating a new version of our bride. It's about giving her the wedding wardrobe to express who she already is.
Perhaps she wants the drama of the Elizabeth Gown. Perhaps she would rather walk down the aisle in trousers. Perhaps she wants to change her look three times, or wear the same skirt again on her honeymoon. Perhaps her idea of the perfect wedding involves a grand celebration; perhaps it is something much smaller and more spontaneous. There is no single way to be a Catherine Deane bride.
White Whispers celebrates the freedom to choose. To mix tradition with something unexpected. To be romantic without being overly feminine, elegant without being uncomfortable, and beautifully dressed without ever feeling overdone.
Because the most effortless brides aren't necessarily the ones who have planned every detail perfectly, they are the ones who feel completely at home in what they are wearing, and completely themselves in the moment.
And perhaps that is the most important whisper of all...
